Cocktail Hour: The Paloma

I love a good margarita (see my favourite recipe here), but why not change things up for Cinco de Mayo this year and make the Paloma, one of Mexico’s most popular cocktails. While the cocktail is traditionally made with grapefruit soda, I like to use fresh grapefruit.

Key Ingredients

  • Good Tequila - I like Casa Amigos, but you do you and choose what you like. You could even use Mezcal if you’d like to add a bit so smokey flavour to your drink.

  • Grapefruit juice - I use fresh grapefruit juice, but if you’d rather not spend the time juicing, feel free to use Fresca, Squirt, or if you’re going authentic, Jarritos.

  • Simple Syrup- 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in a pan heated, but not boiled, until sugar dissolves. If you’re using soda, omit this

  • Club Soda - Any club soda will do, I usually just make my own in my soda stream. Again, if you’re using grapefruit soda, you can omit this.

  • Salt - Use to salt the rim of your glass, but I also put a dash in the shaker when I’m mixing it.

  • Lime - for garnish.

Easy Instructions

  1. Run a lime around the edge of your glass and dip in salt and fill with ice

  2. Pour Tequila, Grapefruit juice, simple syrup, and club soda over ice in glass

  3. Stir

  4. Garnish with lime and enjoy!
