Step One

Determine what type of illustration you want to have created. Visit my Custom Illustration page to see the options available. If you don’t see an option that fits your needs, email me directly at erin@denimandink.com with all the details and I’ll get back to you on if I can accommodate your request.

I create my illustrations using photos provided by you. You can provide me with photos, links to instagram accounts, even inspiration photos of what you have in mind. The beauty of an illustration is that I can create anything you want, it doesn’t need to be represented in a current photo.

Step 2

Fill out the request form. Be sure to include as much information at possible on the form. This helps me create a more accurate quote for the work. I will create a quote specific to your request and email it to you within 48 hours (unless otherwise stated). Quotes are emailed from my square account, so if you don’t see it, check you spam folder.

I can print the illustration on notecards, phone cases, and provide digital copies. If you’re interested in any of these, please note that on the request form (Some items take extra time to procure).

Step Three

After you’ve viewed your quote/contract (you need to click the view button which takes you to square) and you’re ready to move forward, simply accept the quote/contract and pay the 50% deposit. The deposit secures your spot in my schedule. This allows me to accurately predict workload and deadlines to ensure all clients get their art on their promised date.

Custom Illustrations typically take 2-4 weeks for me to complete, but that can vary throughout the year. I try to clearly communicate the timeline within the quote I provide. Once I’ve received your down payment, I’ll email you for photos and any other details you wish to provide in helping me create your vision.

Step Four

I create a pencil sketch based off the photos provided. The illustration will be a representation of my artistic vision of what you have asked for. You will have an opportunity to make changes prior to the final illustration to ensure it is what you are envisioning. I will do my best to capture your vision, but in the end, it is my artistic style and interpretation.

The pencil sketch will be emailed to you, asking for your input and feedback. Most often I’m looking for feedback on scale of people/pets, outfits, hair, poses, etc. This is your opportunity to make any requests for changes, adds/deletes before I add color to the illustration.

Step Five

When the pencil sketch is signed off on, I color the illustration. Once colored, I email the illustration over one last time for a final review. Minor changes can be made at this point, mostly slight color changes, adding specific details, or adjustments.

The colored illustration is printed on archival art paper and packaged for shipping. When the illustration is ready to be mailed, I update the invoice for the final payment. All illustrations are shipped via USPS 2 Day Priority Mail and are packaged in a cello wrapper with a cardboard backer and mailed in a cardboard envelope. If there is a different shipping service you would like used, this can usually be accommodated.
