Series: Books I Read in March

I read more than I expected to this month and loved three out of the four. The one I didn’t love (The Marriage Portrait) wasn’t that it was bad, I just don’t think I was in the mood for it. It took my MUCH longer to get through than the other books because I wasn’t able to fully focus when reading it - could have been because I was trying to read before bed after jam packed days with friends visiting from the US :) Anywho, check out my thoughts below and let me know if you’ve read any of them and what you thought.

Check out what I read below. ** Disclosure: I am an affiliate of Bookshop.org where your purchases support local bookstores. I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase on any of the links below. **

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

This psychological suspense novel was thrilling to the very end. Amber is determined to be a nobody anymore. She’s set her sights on becoming the next Mrs. Parrish, wife to the real estate Mogul Jackson Parrish. In order to do this, Amber is playing the long game and ingratiates herself into the Parrish family by becoming close friends with Jackson’s current wife, Daphne. Daphne exudes wealth, charm, a life of luxury, and Amber wants it all. She slowly begins to execute her plan to push Daphne out and make Jackson fall in love with her. But Amber has skeletons in her closet, and if found out, they can ruin her whole plan. The book was deliciously thrilling with dark secrets and shocking twists right up until the very end.

The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell

This wasn’t a favorite, I’ll be honest. I was excited by all the reviews, but found I had a hard time getting through it. Typically I love historical fiction, so it could have also been when I read it. The writing itself is wonderful though. The book is about Lucrezia de’ Medici in 1550’s Florence. She is the third daughter of the grand duke who is suddenly set to become the wife to the duke of Ferrara due to her older sister’s death. She is only 15 when she enters a court that is volatile and nothing like the one she grew up in. Her only role to the court and her husband it to provide an heir and if she cannot do so, she fears it will not bode well for her. Written from Lucrezia’s point of view, at times we question if events are really happening of if they are imagined and up until the end we aren’t quite sure.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Loved. But then again, I always love a book that has any kind of magic, mythical creatures (Faeries, Dragons, Shapeshifters, you name it!), and a great suspenseful plot. This book fit all of that and I finished it in 2 days. The book opens with Feyre hunting to keep her family alive and she ends up killing a wolf, who really isn’t a wolf, but a Faerie in wolf form. This breaks the treaty the humans have with the Faerie world and a Faerie comes to offer her death or a lifetime on the other side of the wall with the Faeries. Feyre choses a lifetime on the other side of the wall and she quickly learns that everything she thought she knew was wrong. But something is destroying the Fae world and she might be the only one who can save them, but she doesn’t know it. The adventure that awaits her is suspenseful and I couldn’t put the book down until I knew what the outcome would be! Can’t wait to start book 2!

The Maid by Nita Prose

I flew through this murder mystery and fell in love with the main character, Molly. Molly is maid at the Regency Grand hotel and she loves her job. But Molly struggles with social cues and doesn’t understand things when they are not meant literally. Making it easy for her to trust the wrong people. She knows that life is grey, but she lives in the black and white. When one of the wealthiest men in town ends up dead in one of the rooms she is responsible for, Molly becomes the prime suspect of his murder. What unfolds over the next few days is what really happened and how Molly ended up in this predicament. Molly soon realizes that she is in over her head. Fortunately, she has friends she didn’t even know she had that come to her rescue. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved that is was told from Molly’s point of view.
