If fika had a mascot, it would be the kanelbulle. Swedish cinnamon buns aren't the frosting-drenched American kind. They're cardamom-scented, not too sweet, and finished with a scatter of pearl sugar that crunches in the best way. Sweden even gives them their own day: Kanelbullens dag, every 4 October.
I drew these as twisted knots, the way you'll find them in most Malmö bakeries, piled on a dark board beside two mismatched mugs and a full carafe of filter coffee. Swedes take their coffee strong and their refills for granted.
