A cardamom bun with the top sliced off, the middle filled with almond paste, a tower of whipped cream, and the little lid dusted with powdered sugar. It's traditionally eaten on Fettisdagen (Shrove Tuesday), but bakeries start selling them right after the holidays and nobody's willing to wait.
The story goes that an 18th-century Swedish king died after a feast that ended with an ambitious number (14!) of semlor. I can't vouch for the details, but I understand the temptation.
